Sample Sailing Itinerary
Upon arrival into Cancun’s international airport, you will meet our shuttle to take you on a 15 minute ride to our departure base located at the Marina Hacienda Del Mar,
www.marinahaciendadelmar.com, located at the north end of Cancun. We welcome you aboard with a cocktail as we get to know each other and discuss the plan for the week.
Day One: After a morning breakfast we begin our adventure with a good day sail to Holbox. Located to the northwest of Cancun, Mexico, Holbox Island is just 26 miles / 42 km long. Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds and creatures. Here we spend the day touring this little fishing community. The streets of Holbox Island are made of white sand, common of Caribbean islands, and there are very few cars. Holbox is considered a virgin tourist destination because very few outsiders visit the island. In spite of the island's natural beauty, inaccessibility has left it unspoiled by mass tourism.
Day TwoOff to Boca Iglesias, where we’ll view the ruins of a 16th century Spanish Colonial Church, where in 1523 Francisco Montejo Jr. led an expedition ashore and was attacked by the local Maya. To reach the ruins will be a day of adventure, but prior to our arrival we stop to snorkel in search of octopus and lobster. After lunch on board we start our journey to the Church.
To reach the abandoned site of Boca Iglesias we navigate through the mangroves and walk through a dense jungle. During the hike, keep your eyes to the trees which are home to the local spider monkeys. Following our excursion we return to the yacht for a relaxing dinner and cocktails.
Day Three: After a morning snorkel, we set sail for our anchorage off the pristine white beaches of Isla Blanca. This is where we often find whale sharks... just one of the many beautiful sea life to experience and a highlight to those who have never experienced this in person. We spend the rest of the day on the beautiful beaches of this relaxing island retreat.
We return for lunch after exploring the island and after lunch we head south to Isla Mujeres.
Day FourIsla Mujeres, ‘The Island of Women’. The story of Isla Mujeres provides a colorful history which explains how the island got it’s name. In 1517, when the Spanish expedition led by Francisco Hernandez Cordova, landed here they discovered a stone temple filled with female shaped Mayan idols. These idols represented the goddess Ixchel, the goddess of fertility. Today, Isla Mujeres has earned the reputation of being the region’s more laid back and relaxing islands offering a quaint little downtown with local shops, beautiful beaches and restaurants.
Here we hop on a golf cart for a tour of the island, stopping to take in the sights of downtown followed by lunch back on the catamaran. After an afternoon of sailing around the island and exploring the beaches, we head back to the marina and enjoy cocktails prior to dinner and exploring the entertainment options of downtown Isla Mujeres.
Day FiveAfter sailing the bay of Mujeres, today we’ll visit a Tourtugranjia (turtle farm) and you can see hundreds of turtles in the various stages of life. After lunch we head back out for a day of sailing to Playa Norte. The relaxing uncrowded beach will be where we spend most of the day. Playa Norte is one of the region’s most spectacular beaches with crystal blue and shallow calm waters. We dinghy in a cooler of cervezas and enjoy the sun and sand.
Later that afternoon we head back to the coast of Cancun and tonight we'll explore the nightlife of Cancun.
Day Six Today we'll sail down just off the coast of Cancun's endless white beaches or sail to snorkel at the wrecksite of "Triunfador" a fishing vessel sunk by hurricane Gilbert abundant in marine life. Or if you prefer, you may like to explore the hotels and shops of the beach as here you’ll have every amenity at your fingertips… rent a jet ski, take a ride on a parasail or people watch on Cancun’s hottest beach! We will stop for lunch at "El Meco" reef system for another fabulous snorkel immersion.
After a full day of activity, and then sail the short distance to Marina Hacienda del Mar for the last dinner aboard.
Departure Day We wake to a wonderful bon voyage breakfast. We say our goodbyes and exchange emails to share our wonderful photos and memories of Mexico's beautiful coast.
