Member usage available for Greece in 2012!

As you may be aware, this summer we partnered with an operator out of Athens Greece to offer stateroom charters to members in the Mediterranean. We chose this operator as a recommendation from partners within the industry and feel they will be a good fit to provide our members a quality experience for sailing in this region of the world. Since the first of June, we've had four charters take place out of our base in Lavrion and the feedback has been fantastic. In fact, one of our most well-traveled clients referred to his week in the Med as the most incredible 7 days he has ever experienced!

Initially, in an effort to 'test the waters' we made Greece available to our members this summer and fall season, not as part of your membership usage, but rather at a discount off the retail rate. Although we realized this was not the preferred option, we felt it would provide us with a good indication for the demand we could expect. In addition, we wanted some time to work out specific details with our new partner and create the best possible experience moving forward.

Our intention has always been to make Greece available through your membership usage and we are excited to announce that beginning in April of 2012, you will in fact be able to do just that!

If you choose to sail the Greek Isles in 2012, there are some specific details we wanted to make you aware of to help you in your planning. We've listed some of these specifics below and further details can be found under our Greece Destination tab online.

A Sailor's Destination.
Unlike our Caribbean destinations, the sailing distances between islands in Cyclades are fairly extensive. You will be averaging 20-30 miles per day as you venture from one island to the next. The islands that you'll visit are some of the most beautiful in terms of ancient ruins, great beaches and quaint Greek communities. Departing out of Laviron, you'll sail the northern Cyclades heading east to Mykonos and as far south as Paros. On our website you can read about the various islands throughout this itinerary. Keep in mind, this is a sample itinerary and could change based on weather conditions, etc.

Modified Provisioning Plan
Just as with all your charters, you will pay the provisioning fee of $1,800/cabin for two people which covers the onboard meals, beverages, captain / chef, docking, water, fuel and mooring fees. As a result of the exchange rate between the Euro and the US dollar, we have had to revise our provisioning package. Dinners, with the exception of one, will be on your own while the other meals and snacks will be provided onboard. The beverages will include juices, water, soft drinks, local beers and wines. Liquor can be purchased locally, however spirits are not included as part of the provisioning fee. Dining at the various restaurants of the quaint Greek towns is a big part of this charter experience. Our guests have found that dinners ashore allow them to enjoy this local culture and flavor.

The Lagoon 420
The catamaran we will be utilizing in Greece is the Lagoon 420. This design which was introduced in 2008, features the same interior volume as the Lagoon 440 however each cabin features a queen berth and ensuite bathroom with a separate walk-in shower. We will have access to two 420s out of Lavrion, each one accommodating up to six guests plus the crew. On occasion we will be able to accommodate groups of up to six couples as a tandem charter.
